How to test if your controller will work with Xpadder
Windows 7:
- Click the Start button
- Type "game controllers"
- Select "Set up USB game controllers"
- If your controller is listed there then it should work with Xpadder
Windows Vista:
- Click the Start button
- Click the Control Panel option on the right of the start menu
- Click the "Hardware and Sound" option (ignore this step if you are using the Classic View of Control Panel)
- Scroll down and select the "Game Controllers" option
- If your controller is listed there then it should work with Xpadder
Windows XP:
- Click the Start button
- Click the Control Panel option on the right of the start menu
- Click the "Printers and Other Hardware" option (ignore this step if you are using the Classic View of Control Panel)
- Scroll down and select the "Game Controllers" option
- If your controller is listed there then it should work with Xpadder
If your controller is not listed in the Game Controllers Control Panel:
You need to install drivers so that Windows and Xpadder can read your controller. Have a look at the Driver forum for more help

If you plug in the PS3 controller without installing drivers it WILL appear in the Game Controller list. It even shows up in Windows 7 Devices and Printers page. The Test tab in its properties shows the buttons and axis' but they do not work.

What an ugly piece of hardware.SGTCableDog wrote:If you plug in the PS3 controller without installing drivers it WILL appear in the Game Controller list. It even shows up in Windows 7 Devices and Printers page. The Test tab in its properties shows the buttons and axis' but they do not work.
Now I can absolutely not imagine anymore why people are forced to get this controller to work on PC.
It isn't made for PC, so normally it shouldn't work. So if it doesn't work, why not easily buy any Controller for Windows and be happy that everything works fine. Instead of getting furious about a program that isn't even to blame, and the about drivers that are absolutely free and made by private developers, which doesn't even have the resources to make a perfect working driver for all hardware combinations and Operating Systems.

As far I know, Sony has a warning on the controller cable to plug it not onto the PC. I have read from wireless PS3 controllers that destroyed parts of the main board while recharge, because they need to much power. So it wouldn't surprise me if they wouldn't follow the USB-standards about sending data too. So that it can work on some USB-controller-chips, but on others it won't.
Maybe Sony knows exactly, why not to make a Windows driver.

Yes, Linux would be interesting.
About Bluetooth I read somewhere that they needed on specific Bluetooth dongle, others didn't work.
If I transfer this to USB-controllers-chips, it wouldn't surprise me, that some people never get the PS3 controller to work.
I think Sony makes no Windows driver, because their controller isn't 100% compatible to all actual PC hardware.
Edit:
Interesting fact about the Xbox360 controller and Linux: You can use the big X-button in the middle like every button else.

Re: How to test if your controller will work with Xpadder
I currently figured out, that it is possible to open the "Game Controllers Control Panel" by clicking on "Start", then on "Run...", and then typing "joy.cpl" and clicking on OK.Jonathan wrote:Windows XP:

This could work for every Windows, and would be easier.

joy.cpl is the control panel item that all those instructions link to. I'm sure I have a good reason for not just using the Run command... I'll let you know when I think of one
