Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (X360)

Post by Primal Fear »

If a assignment has two names separated by a /, then it means that the first on is assigned on tap and the second on on hold.
For "Action" and "Use Inv.-Item" you can use both, the right stick button (tap) and X (so actually same function).
You can use them also to select menu entries, but I wouldn't recommend that as if you do this to select a save slot it will be understood as Back/Cancel.
While holding the left stick button, you can look around faster.
When you hold the left Trigger for "Aim", Xpadder switches to the "Lean" Set. It mainly changes the function of the left stick to "Lean Left/Right" and reduced the speed of the mouse movement on the right stick.
While being in the Lean Set, you can move left/right by pressing A/B or by moving the right stick left and right while holding it's stick button.
Hold the left shoulder button to aim with the ship cannon later in the game. Informations how to solve this part with the no reef bug are at the end of this post.

Now some helpful informations to the bugs I have encountered in this game. It seems to be not so bad as it's reputation and it definitely worth playing.
  • 1.At the beginning I had sometimes the problem that a animation (shock effect) didn't load, so the game was stuck somehow. Although it wasn't completely frozen it didn't react on anything, so my only possibility was to close it via the Task Manager.
Solution: Run it with WindowsXP SP3 compatibility mode and also activate "Disable visual designs".

2.In the "old jail house" you have to open a safe behind a shelf. When you push away the shelf, the game can crash.
Solution: Don't touch the wall (or probably the safe, to be precisely) while pushing the shelf. Push it as far on the front edge as possible.

3.The "No Reef Bug", you shall use a cannon on a ship to shoot on lights on a reef. Well, the problem is that there is no reef and no lights. To know where you have to aim, have the look on this Youtube video. I recommend to make a note in form of numbers where to aim (I have interpreted the scale there like centimeters).
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOJrJVYQ-Hg
Also it is a torture to aim with this cannon using a mouse and or the normal Xpadder mouse assignment. So like I have already mentioned before, hold the left shoulder button while aiming with this cannon.

Primal you beat me to it. I also had mine made out and was going to post and just saw yours. Its really fantastic. Your defined mappings are far better though. I like to place the Sneak as a double command with crouch for more convenience. I tend to not like pressing on the left analog stick and moving it around, it sometimes slip from being pressed if you know what I mean. Otherwise everything else is fantastic. Great piece of work.

Yes, leaning left/right is currently in this profile pretty suboptimal.
I want to reach the possibility to lean while aiming and shooting. So the shoulder buttons don't come in consideration except of the urge to perform artistic trick on the pad. I use them in adventure games in that style but without weapons (Amnesia, Penumbra).
In my Stalker profile I have put lean in the same set that I have used for aiming (slower mouse movement), so while holding the left trigger. But here this is impractical too, as there are no sights and so the visible area isn't restricted while aiming.

I have already added some more functions to the profile, especially the weapon selection that I have missed since I neither had weapons nor are these key bindings configurable. I have also changed toggling Sneak and Crouch to the left stick button as an tap and hold assignment. Since I have searched Sneak all the time on the stick button, I have to agree with you about that too.

So now it's open to find a good solution for the Lean Set. I have some ideas and will try which works best, before I will post the updated profile.

BTW: Did you get my mail?

Big Update: added fast look around function, menu functionality for left stick, weapon selection on Dpad (while still working in menus), better solutions (two options) for lean left/right.
