Deadly Premonition (X360), no set switching +button prompts

Post by Primal Fear »

Benefits to other version:
-no need to press a different button for entering cars, just A and only A
-no set switching->no possibility to mix up main and driving controls
-F key is perfectly placed on Y (additionally to right stick button) for quicktime events

Disadvantages:
-select weapons is on Dpad only
-Combat Mode on LB (not as comfortable as LT) with the need to also press the left stick button for Auto-aim
-Run is on the left stick button instead of the left stick itself
-no mouse spring in cars
-it is possible to walk forward with RT, but as this doesn't interfere with Attack because of the Combat Mode this isn't directly a problem
further details/profile screenshot: Show
-holding X has the additional function to press Alt two times, this helps when the game has loading problems (means when you open the pause and see black for a while, you try to open a door and nothing happens anymore for a few seconds or long loading times)

To have this correctly working you need to disable the broken native controller support.
The simple way to do that is installing the DPFix. With this mod the native controller support is deactivated by default, but check the resolution setting in the DPfix.ini to have it configured to your preferences. Also to mod the button prompts matching with my profile change "enableTextureOverride" to 1 and place this file into the folder ".../Steam/steamapps/common/Deadly Premonition The Director's Cut/dpfix/tex_override".
alternative way without DPfix and button prompts: Show
For another a little bit more complicated way without the possibility to mod the button prompts you need a second controller that you will disconnect while playing the game. To configure that workaround connect both controllers, press Windows key+R, type "joy.cpl" (without "), press Enter, click "Advanced...", select the controller you don't want to use and click OK and again OK. Now just disconnect the controller you have selected a preferred device every time you play the game. I have done this on Windows7, it may not work with other Windows versions but I'm confident about that. Note that you may need to select your preferred controller again as preferred device to use it in some games, but modern Xinput games aren't anyways affected by that.

Update:
-fixed the assignments on Dpad left/right that were missing for some "unknown" reason (I have no idea how that could happen while the names were still there)
Update2:
-added function to tap Alt two time on holding X for loading problems of the game
-added Auto-aim to left stick button
Update3:
-added image for button prompts
